As of 12:40pm CT on Wednesday, December 6, it seems that Xbox Live is down. Xbox Live is a fairly reliable service, and it’s rare that it has any serious issues. That being said, this would mark the second time that major Xbox Live services have gone offline in December 2023.
On December 2, some Xbox Live services experienced major outages. These outages kept Xbox Live users from signing in to their accounts, using party chat, and playing games through the cloud. Xbox was relatively quick to acknowledge the issues with Xbox Live and worked fast to address them. All the problems with Xbox Live on that day were cleared up in a matter of hours, but it remains to be seen how long it will take for the problems on December 6 to be resolved.
Xbox Has New Way to Remember Xbox Live Gold
Microsoft creates a new way for console gamers to remember Xbox Live Gold after the service ended its operations earlier this month.
Xbox Support has yet to acknowledge the outage, but Xbox Live is currently down for many users. In our own testing, we are unable to sign in to Xbox Live at all. Others have said that even the Xbox App isn’t working for them at the moment. It’s unclear exactly how widespread this outage is or what all Xbox Live services are being impacted, but hopefully the problems are fixed sooner rather than later.
This isn’t the best timing for Xbox Live to go down. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Season 1 is set to launch today, and with it, a brand-new map for the Warzone battle royale. If the Xbox Live outages last enough, it could prevent gamers from jumping into the new Warzone map and enjoying all the other new content that’s being added to Modern Warfare 3 today. The previous Xbox Live outage was problematic for similar reasons.
The Xbox Live issues from this past Saturday happened to coincide with the Fortnite Big Bang event. This hyped Fortnite event saw the destruction of the OG map and teases for what Chapter 5 would have in store. Understandably, many fans were upset when they were unable to access the event. Hopefully the problems with Xbox Live are fixed soon so Call of Duty fans don’t have the first day of Season 1 ruined for them.
