Berry Smoothie For the Candida Control Diet

When you are on a Candida Control Diet, you are limited as to they kinds of foods you can eat. You are not allowed to have sugar or anything that turns to sugar, like simple carbohydrates and most fruit. It is important to have a healthful breakfast that will fill you up, not make you feel deprived, and, for me, satisfy your sweet tooth. This smoothie recipe fits all of those requirements and keeps me full for several hours. Although you should follow the Candida Diet strictly in the first six weeks, I recommend this smoothie as part of your daily routine because it is just that yummy.

I used to make smoothies with fruit juice and various kinds of frozen fruit. Because only frozen berries are safe on the candida diet, I can still have my smoothies, but I now use almond milk to thin it out. You can taste the almond flavor. Goat milk yogurt is available at Trader Joe’s. This recipe makes about 1 1/2 glasses of smoothie. I drink one glass, then put the rest in the fridge to drink in a couple hours.

5-6 frozen strawberries

1 c. goat milk yogurt

1 Tbsp. ground flax meal

1-2 Tbsp. almond butter

Almond milk

1 scoop whey protein powder (not from soy and gluten-free)

Add everything to the blender except the protein powder, adding enough almond milk to thin the mixture a bit but still leaving the smoothie fairly thick. It’ll keep you full longer if it’s thicker. When the strawberries are pulverized, run the blender while adding the protein powder. Serves 1.
