Grouting Tips and Techniques For the Mosaic Tiles

The grout and tile adhesive plays a crucial role in the mosaic tiles project. Mosaics are popularly used for designing walls, floorings, back splash, pictures, vase, tabletops etc. Most of the tiles are small, hence tiler needs to grout them with perfection, otherwise the tiles might get detached from the surface. You should ask your tiler to suggest a good-quality grout for filling up the space between consecutive tiles.

Firstly, it is important to calculate the amount of grout required for the project. The quantity of grout mixture depends upon the total area of the mosaic tiles, thickness of the tile and distance between consecutive tiles. Usually, the gap is less than 1/8″. If it’s more than 1/8″, then you should buy grout with sand content. The sand prevents cracking of the grout between the tiles.

The next step is to apply grout between the mosaic tiles. You can prepare the grout mixture as per the instructions on the grout leaflet. Mix the ingredients in right quantity. Your grout should be in accordance with your tiling surface. You can also take professional help while making the choice for a perfect grout color and finish.

Once you prepare the mixture, apply it on the space between the mosaic tiles. Spread the mixture evenly, so that it fills the gap uniformly. Now, wipe the extra grout from the tile surface. You can wipe it with help of a soft sponge. Avoid using a rag, as it leads to scratches on the surface. Clean the excess grout instantly and clean the sponge after every cleaning session.

Sometimes, the tiles surface gets stained due to grout color. This happens because you didn’t use a sealant. The porous tile materials get stained due to the grout; hence you should seal these mosaic tiles before applying the grout. So, take proper precautions and grout your tiles with perfection.
