Thanks to CM Punk’s shock return to WWE at Survivor Series, the upcoming WWE 2K24 could potentially feature the controversial superstar on its roster, breaking a 10-year streak of absences that started with 2014’s WWE 2K15. WWE 2K24 has not actually been announced at the time of this writing, but since a new entry in the series has been released almost every single year since WWE 2K14 in 2013, it would be very surprising if 2024 didn’t have a new game waiting in the wings.

WWE fans went two years without getting a new game. WWE 2K20 was so poorly-made that it saw the franchise put on ice, with 2K Sports choosing to take 2020 and 2021 off to ensure that WWE 2K22 could live up to its full potential. Many hailed WWE 2K22 as a return to form for the pro wrestling game franchise, with WWE 2K23 successfully following up on that momentum in 2023. So while WWE 2K24 has yet to be officially announced, chances are very good that it will be released at some point next year.

Recent Triple H Report Should Lead to a New WWE 2K24 Game Mode

A recent report suggests Triple H is actively trying to dismantle one negative perception around WWE, and the WWE 2K games could assist with that.

When WWE 2K24 does hit the market, chances are good that it will feature CM Punk on the roster of playable wrestlers. CM Punk is one of the most popular WWE superstars of all time, having just recently made his shocking return to the company after a 10-year absence. Sometimes these big returns happen too late for the wrestlers to be included in the roster for the next video game, but with Punk back in the company as of Survivor Series in November 2023, one has to imagine that there’s plenty of time to get him in WWE 2K24 by the time it launches, which will most likely be in March of next year. If CM Punk is featured on the WWE 2K24 roster, it would be the first time he was in a WWE video game in 10 years.

CM Punk made his WWE video game debut in WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2008, appearing in every major WWE video game after that until WWE 2K15, which marks his last appearance in the series to date. Punk was even the cover athlete of WWE ’13, and so he has a storied history with WWE video games. Considering Punk’s popularity and the high likelihood that he will immediately be figured into the main event on WWE programming, it would be shocking if he were left off the WWE 2K24 roster.

Punk would be a huge selling point for WWE 2K24 considering the fact that he’s been gone from the franchise for a decade, but that could also be a potential reason for leaving him off. It’s possible that Punk will be saved to sell as WWE 2K24 DLC instead, though that’s just speculation at this time. Until WWE 2K24 is actually announced, all fans can do is speculate about what the game will bring to the table and who will be part of the base roster. If previous years are any indication, more solid information about WWE 2K24 will likely come to light at the Royal Rumble in January.

WWE 2K23 promises to be both the biggest and best game in the franchise to date, with expanded features and a huge roster of current and former WWE Superstars. The game features multiple modes, including 3v3 and 4v4 multiplayer modes.  In addition to causing carnage in the new WarGames mode, players can relive some of John Cena’s most iconic moments in the ring courtesy of this year’s Showcase mode.
