A Minecraft player has bizarrely discovered a swarm of Iron Golems in a lake near their base. Minecraft players can build Iron Golems to protect important pieces of land, but this one may not have expected to find so many underwater.

Mojang has updated Minecraft many times over the years. The Iron Golem was added with version 1.2.1 alongside Ocelots, which populated village and jungle areas respectively. Iron Golems will protect Villagers as they patrol their living spaces, occasionally killing hostile mobs that threaten them. Players can also build an Iron Golem by combining four Iron blocks with a Jack O’Lantern or Pumpkin. The Iron blocks must be placed in a t-shape for the golem to come to life. The Iron Golem does impressive damage to mobs but may attack a player who hits it. This gamer has come across a group of these neutral mobs in an underwater crevice that were potentially meant to be patrolling a nearby village.

Reddit user Idkwhattowastaken recently shared a Minecraft screenshot of nine submerged Iron Golems. Despite being stuck underwater, these Iron Golems are visibly undamaged, potentially making them useful allies. The towering mobs are congregating near some Lapis, which can be used for Minecraft Enchanting or making Blue Dye. The Reddit user confirmed that the body of water they were found in is near their base, which is close to a village. For Iron Golems to spawn, the village likely has 10 or more inhabitants, with some of them being workers. Idkwhattowastaken hasn’t shared their Seed with others, which prevents them from replicating the experience.

As no coordinates are visible, and the gamer hasn’t clarified, it’s currently unclear what depth these mobs are stuck at. Because Iron Golems can’t swim, they may be stuck at this underwater height level. Despite their inability to swim, players can rescue Iron Golems trapped like this in a few ways. They can slowly build up the ground underneath the Iron Golems, causing them to eventually reach the surface. Minecraft Sponges can also be used to absorb water in enclosed spaces. This means that the player can wall off a portion of this crevice before absorbing the water within using a Sponge. Finally, if all the water enters this area through one empty block, filling the space can stop the liquid from flooding in.

Although they can’t defend Minecraft Villagers from this location, these Iron Golems may occasionally battle the Drowned. Given that Idkwhattowastaken hasn’t provided an update, it is unknown whether these Iron Golems have been saved or not. The lack of damage shows that the Iron Golems aren’t hurt by the water, just as Iron blocks won’t rust in the same conditions.
