Keanu Reeves has spawned many memes throughout his career, and now gamers can see Johnny Silverhand reenact his famous “Sad Keanu” moment thanks to the recent Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.1 patch. Reeves was a major part of Cyberpunk 2077’s marketing ahead of its 2020 release, as he lent his voice and likeness to the rebellious rockstar that main Cyberpunk 2077 protagonist V finds himself haunted by in the game’s main plot. He would reprise his role as Johnny in this year’s Phantom Liberty DLC expansion, which also saw Hollywood mega-star Idris Elba join him as the hard-boiled FIA agent Solomon Reed in a new section of the crime-ridden Night City.

Phantom Liberty served as the exclamation point of a nearly three-year redemption arc for Cyberpunk 2077, following several patches and updates that addressed many of the technical issues the game suffered from at launch. It wouldn’t be the last piece of new Cyberpunk 2077 content CD Projekt RED released before it announced that it was done with its sci-fi first-person RPG though, as the Cyberpunk 2077 2.1 update went live early this week. This final downloadable update patch added many features that were promised in Cyberpunk 2077’s earlier promotional material, such as a fully rideable NCART metro system for travel across the perilous streets of Night City.

Cyberpunk 2077 Gets Another Physical Release

Mere days ahead of its three-year anniversary, Cyberpunk 2077 gets treated to its second-ever physical release for PC and consoles.

While riding the train, players can interact with Johnny Silverhand, and the virtual rockerboy can even recreate one of his actor’s most shared memes if the player forgoes Cyberpunk 2077‘s new accelerated fast-travel option. As shown in a screenshot shared by Reddit user aks31 on r/cyberpunkgame, Johnny can sometimes be seen sitting at one of the train’s benches with a partially eaten hot dog in his mechanical hand, looking down introspectively at some origami birds another passenger left behind. This is a reference to the “Sad Keanu” meme, which was first spawned from a photo of Keanu Reeves in a similar position taken by paparazzi back in 2010.

Other Reddit users have responded to aks31’s post by quoting Keanu Reeves’s explanation for the infamous park bench picture, joking that Johnny Silverhand isn’t sad, just “hungry.” This is hardly the first time that one of Reeves’s many memes has made it into Cyberpunk 2077, as players can use the game’s Photo Mode to recreate the actor’s equally iconic “you’re breathtaking” moment from the Cyberpunk 2077 stage presentation at E3 2019 – which even had an in-game achievement named after it.

Many fans enjoyed Keanu Reeves’s performance as Johnny Silverhand in Cyberpunk 2077, and the game’s numerous references to the actor have certainly generated a few laughs over the past three years. Now the famous “Sad Keanu” meme is a part of the Cyberpunk 2077 universe as well, giving players another incentive to try out the new in-game metro system added by the recent Update 2.1 patch.
