It can be rewarding in more ways than one to customize and install your own house accessories such as cabinets and their hardware. While it can look extremely elegant when it is finished, it is really quite simple to do by yourself.

1. Your first step is to find the correct size drill bit. You want one that matches the thread hole on the handle. You can try a few different sizes, but your best bet is the one that fits most tightly to the hardware.
2. Now you have to figure out exactly where you want the handles to be installed. For drawers, you should put them in the middle. For cabinet doors, it is more important to have them in a convenient place for you. Many people place handles in the bottom corner, while others are able to put them in the middle of the inside edge. Just be certain where you want them before you begin to drill.
3. Using a pencil and a level, mark exactly where you want your handles. If you are installing drawer handles with two screws, you will need to use the level. For cabinets, you can use the level when making sure the two different handles are at equal levels on their respective doors.
4. Pre-drill the holes at the marked locations. This will give the screws something to hold onto when you begin assembling the cabinets and drawers. Make sure you do not go too deep otherwise the hole will be too loose for the screws.
5. Simply line up the hardware with the holes and begins screwing in the handles. You can use a drill or a simple screwdriver, depending on the pre-drill hole and the length of screw you use. When the screws are fully tightened, there should not be any space between the hardware and the cabinets.

It is important to remember that when you pre-drill, make sure you do not go all the way through the cabinet. Most cabinet doors do not need nuts behind the handle; so going all the way through could split the wood after years of use.
