An Alpaca Farm – A Great Farm For Those Looking To Be Green

Alpacas are one of the few animals on the farm lot who are not going to harm the land on which they are standing. The problem is too few people know about how these animals are going to make it easy for them to have a green farm almost right away. Since they do not know about these benefits, the person will avoid getting the alpaca on their farm and then end up disappointed in the state of their pastures after a year of having cattle run on the farm. This is when those same people should know how green an alpaca farm can be, when compared to some of the other animals they can buy for the farm.

Grass and the pasture lot is one of the first things people complain about when it comes time for them to put animals out to the pasture. Normally when you have cattle, pigs, or other animals normally found on a farm these animals will tear the grass up. With the alpaca, they are lacking the top teeth to tear the grass up by the roots. Since they do not have the top teeth, you will notice the alpaca are just trimming the grass, which is leaving the pasture intact and growing.

Poo which you can use as a fertilizer almost immediately is something else which you can enjoy. Typically when you have pig or cow manure you have to let it sit for a year for it to cool down. With the alpaca poo, you can pick up the poo and use it almost right away. For me, I let it sit down for a while before I use it, but I have some friends who have used this right away on their garden.

Something else I really enjoy with my alpaca farm is the animals which are just big furry teddy bears. Yes, the animals are trusting and will come up to you, but they are also distrusting at the same time and if you try to grab them they will run. However, the alpaca have one main job and that is to lay around and grow fleece all day long. Since they are constantly growing fleece, I do not have to be worried about them getting cold in the winter. However, each Spring you do have to shear them, but this gives me some great fiber to work with and use in the summer months making products for my markets.
